Using FORScan to tweak your ride...

After a few days of researching, I have finally figured out how to download and use Forscan for the Raptor.

Here are links that I used to install/buy/download everything you'll need.
Do this all at your own risk. It's pretty simple, and always have a backup stock file if you start playing around.

First order your favorite OBDII adapter - these have great reviews!

  1. Download Forscan from http://forscan.org/download.html
  2. Download the extended license in order to use it.

  1. You'll need to make an account on the forscan.org forum site. It takes a about 30min or so for an admin to accept you, afterwards, you're good)
  2. Watch this video to learn how to move around.

Here's a link to all the "As-built" codes discovered so far.
It's pretty straightforward and can be a little time consuming since when you re-code anything you have to cycle the ignition, but it's worth it.

USB upgrade to Sync 3 version 3.0

Well, if you're like me - you love the Ford Sync 3 interface - while it's not perfect, it's pretty darned good!  Carplay is a nice update but if you've updated to IOS 11 - you'll notice some weird things going on - but guess what!? If you don't want to wait for the WiFi update - you can install SYNC 3 Version 3.0 using a USB drive!

There are new features for CarPlay with
  1. New Nav Icon.
  2. Fixed keyboard
  3. added symbol $
  4. MUCH faster interface smoother, snappier
  5. Support for new apps

**disclaimer - do this at your own risk! not my fault if it goes belly up!**

Installation instructions: 1. Download. 2. Unzip. 3. Grab a USB Flash Drive, 4GB is fine. 4. Format the drive to either exFAT or FAT32. 5. Put the extracted files inside the flash drive. 6. Turn car on. 7. Plug in car and enjoy!!

***** Note that depending on your USB device it might take up to 10 minutes for the stereo to show "Updating System"... *****

The USB in the car is NOT USB 3 therefore read speed is limited, so if you don't see anything, DO NOT unplug - just wait....

There are two versions to update your particular SYNC 3 system

BURNOUT TIME!

PEDAL COMMANDER - it's the best money I've spent on the Raptor YET!

You can get a great deal using AUG10 at Freedom Motorsports!

O M G!!!

If you like burnout videos like this one by Ken Block

you need to get the Pedal Commander!

Seriously it's a 5-minute install and 0 to 10 seconds of smiles from ear-to-ear!  My heart is still pounding from my first test drive... Sport PLUS mode is WAY too much for the street - I'll have no tires left if I keep it in Sport+  LOL

$600 for a premium sound system - is it possible?

note: this page works best with your ad-blocker turned off :)

The Sony Sound system in the 802a package is pretty nice, but it's lacking in clarity and needs a little more 'punch' on the low end... so I have a fun DIY project that I'll be pursuing...

While I'm not an audophile, I do enjoy music and if you have long trips - may as well be good to your ears!  :)

Here's the running list of parts - the total cost is about $570 which includes enough Dynamat to cover the whole inside of the truck!

Here's the thread that started my quest! http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f266/diy-stereo-upgrade-under-%24500-00-a-53213/

Some Dynamat to install around the doors and other places...

In recent discoveries, you'll need 2 x of the Dynamat kits, or you can go with the Noico for cheaper!

Ok, let's talk speakers - this is what 'talks' to you - right?  In doing some research, the Pioneer A-series are the 'bang for the buck' and at these prices, I don't see how you can go wrong!

Front Doors are 6x9 with brackets

Rear Doors are 6.5" with brackets

Front pillars have 7/8" tweeters (need a brace for them), and the center dash uses a 3 1/2" speaker

Now we need the subwoofer, amplifier and wiring!  This retrofits into the existing subwoofer cabinet.

Retrax Pro MX tonneau cover - what an amazing add-on!

When we had the bed line-x'ed we added a tonneau cover...  this essentially makes the truck bed like a HUGE trunk! :)

The RetraxPRO MX retractable truck bed cover is part of our Premium Aluminum Series covers. The Premium Aluminum Series covers are constructed from industrial strength aluminum slats that provide unsurpassed strength and ruggedness. The RetraxPRO MX combines industrial strength aluminum construction with an incredibly resilient matte finish. The matte finish on the RetraxPRO MX provides incredible scratch resistance and adds style to your truck. The RetraxPRO MX not only provides rugged protection for your truck bed it also provides a patented low-profile design that enhances the appearance of your truck. The compact storage container features a unique spiral track system that prevents the cover from coming into contact with itself as it opens and closes. The operation of this cover allows it to always stay flush to the rails and creates a dependable seal to help keep the elements out and protect your cargo. The RetraxPRO MX has a sealed ball-bearing roller system that glides effortlessly along the rail with a convenient handle that eliminates the need for pull straps, Velcro, snaps or springs. The RetraxPRO MX is key lockable in any position that gives you unlimited flexibility in your hauling capacity.

Also notice the Bullring 2015 - fits perfectly in the cutout :)

Hope this helps you figure out if you'd like one on your truck! :)

Finally installed my subwoofer upgrade

So many projects, so little time... but I've been wanting to update my subwoofer and amp for as long as I've owned the truck - it&#...
