new shoes for the Raptor - Pirelli Scorpions!

After 36k miles on the BFG KO2s they were getting rather lumpy, noisy and down to about 4-5/32nds so it was time.  Did a lot of research and found the Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus in the stock size 315/70R17 - and decided they were a good choice for my driving style.

Pirelli’s new SCORPION™ ALL TERRAIN PLUS offers light truck and SUV drivers a durable, high performance driving experience in a wide range of challenging on or off road conditions. The product feature a self cleaning pattern aimed at increasing integrity while delivering excellent wet, snow, and mud traction.

These are E-rated tires, so heavier duty sidewalls - not the best for MUD and crawling, but then again my truck is 90% road so I won't be that concerned.  The tire comes with a 50k warranty as well, as compared to the BFG KO2 - with no warranty.

The feel on the highway is excellent, and these tires are nearly silent.  Maybe it was just the wear on the KO2 but it was like riding in a 747 - you had that constant drone of the tires...

A little cheaper than the KO2, and 50k warranty - plus all the features - time will tell if these were a good switch!

SPD Exhaust Adapters for the 3.5L Ecoboost F-150 Ford Raptor

Engines are air-pumps - plainly said, more air in = more air out.  In general, if you can move more air/fuel - you make more power...

This is why SPD Performance created these SPD Exhaust Adapters - see below...

So you wonder - what the heck is this?

If you see below, the SPD adapter is on the left and the OEM adapter is on the right...
These larger adapters will maximize flow, greatly reduce exhaust back-pressure and help to lower Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGTs).

The outlet is 2.3125" ID compared to the stock outlet which is 2.0625" ID.
This is a 25% increase in area for the exhaust to leave the turbo...

You'll need a stud puller - well worth the $20 to save your knuckles!

The guys at the garage had all the right tools to install these puppies... thank God!

They seem to be doing the job - the exhaust sounds a little deeper too!

Some subtle yet useful mods... tiedowns, antennas and rain guards!

Gotta make this ride unique (and useful!)

Starting with some subtle mods

It's a truck, so I need more things to tie crap down with - these Bullring Tie Down anchors are cheap and identical to the Ford ones that cost 3X as much!   They're nice and flush when sitting normally, and they lock in the 'up' position when needed!

The stock antenna is HUGE, it swayed in the wind like crazy - this 'Stubby' sure is small, but I can't tell the difference between this one and the long OEM antenna!  Well worth it!

And finally - I love these rain guards!  Weathertech makes some of the best, they're super flush fit - and fit INSIDE the window channel.  Keeps the rain out, but lets cool air in/out of the truck!

We're buying the Raptor in Colorado and driving home in a few weeks.  We were looking for some things to do along the way - and I found Roadtrippers.com!  What a cool site!

You can add SO many different things, gas stations, shopping, lodging, even off-the-beaten path stuff too!

Here's our plans to drive 2 days home - almost 1,000 miles of exploring 👀

The journey of buying our 2017 Ford Raptor - Preamble...

I've always been amazed with the Ford F-150, never was really a 'truck guy' to be honest, but
respected that a vehicle can last 40+ years in production, and leading the way most of those years...

When Ford announced the 2017 Ford Raptor - on the refreshed body style introduced in 2015 - it caught my eye.  Not only did the styling look amazing, but the V6 twin-turbo was intriguing.  The Ford Ecoboost strategy has done very well in recent years.  Every automaker goes through ups and downs in manufacturing, but Ecoboost has caught on in a big way.  We love our 2016 Ford Focus ST with the 2.0L ecoboost motor... decent MPG and excellent power in such a little car!

So many different sites to get information on these trucks - a few of my favorites listed here:

Added Deaver +3HD leaf springs today!
